July 10, 1998 -- Crate Amplifiers introduced the new "Taxi," a portable, battery-powered amplifier at the summer NAMM show in Nashville on July 10-12, 1998. The Crate Taxi amp operates on a rechargeable battery providing up to eight hours of operation on a single charge. The amp features 30 watts RMS power, an 8" Crate speaker and a charger is also included. Other features of the Taxi amp include two channel operation with channel A providing a 1/4" input, tone and volume controls, suitable for a microphone or as a clean channel while Channel B offers gain, low, mid, high and level controls with gain boost for distortion tones. Additional features are headphone jack, 1/4" stereo insert jack which also functions as a line in/out and a dual colored LED to indicate when the amp is on and the battery is charging. Housed in a monitor-style cabinet, the Taxi is covered in high-viz safety yellow tolex with black grille and metal corners and is covered by Crate's industry-standard setting, transferable warranty which covers electronics for five years and speakers for two years. The Taxi amp retails for $299.99 and will be available at authorized Crate retailers in late summer. For more information, visit their web site at www.crateamps.com.
