Yamaha Announces Delivery of the 01V Digital Mixing Console
July 10, 1998 -- After the successful March introduction of the new Yamaha 01V Digital Mixing Console, the Yamaha Pro Audio Group has announced May delivery of the mixer to its dealer base. The Yamaha 01V will make its official NAMM debut at the Summer NAMM show in Nashville. The 01V has the power and performance of the 02R and 03D at the original price of the ProMix 01-$1,999 MSRP. "We have received an overwhelming response from our dealers with strong sales expected over the next several months," states Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Pro Audio Group. "We are extremely optimistic that the Yamaha 01V will be met with great enthusiasm by the recording, production, and project studio markets." While the Yamaha 01V retains all the popular ProMix 01 features, including snapshot storage, instant reset of all functions, motorized faders, on-board dynamics, parametric EQ and digital effects, it includes some significant advances to meet the needs of recording and production professionals. The 01V has the power of the 02R and 03D in a more affordable package and utilizes Yamaha's expertise in DSP technology as well as 10 years of digital mixer development. VERSATILE ARCHITECTURE - The Yamaha 01V provides 24 full-featured channels, two stereo effect returns, six busses, six aux sends plus direct outputs on channels 1-16. It offers balanced connectors for all inputs and outputs, with parallel 1/4-in. and XLR inputs, mic preamps, and 48-volt phantom power on channels 1-12. The primary input channels (1-16) each feature the same 4-band parametric EQ and limiter compressor/gate found in the Yamaha 02R, plus a 250 ms delay line. Analog outputs include up to 300 ms of delay, ideal for speaker alignment in sound reinforcement applications. In addition to dedicated analog connections for the stereo bus and monitor outputs, four analog OMNI-SEND outputs can be programmed to output any of the busses, aux 1-4, or channel direct outputs. DIGITAL I/O - One of the significant differences between 01V and the ProMix 01 is the inclusion of dedicated features for recording. A new OPTION I/O card slot allows the installation of any of three new MINI digital I/O cards. When inserted into the OPTION I/O slot, optional cards facilitate interface to popular 8-channel digital multi-track recorders, workstations and signal processing equipment in Alesis ADAT, Tascam TDIF, or AES/EBU digital formats. The OPTION I/O slot normals to 01V inputs 17-24 which are specifically designed to function as digital tape returns. They feature 2-band parametric EQ with 20Hz - 20kHz range on each band, 4 aux sends, and the ability to assign to any output bus for combining tracks. At any time, signals from the OPTION I/O card slot can be individually switched to appear on inputs 1-8. The optional I/O cards allow the user to keep all signals in the digital domain throughout the creative process. An analog card is also planned to provide an additional eight channels of analog I/O. The optional digital format I/O cards are available for $299 MSRP. EXPANDABLE SYSTEM - With the prevalence of affordable digital 8-track recorders, Yamaha recognized the market need to have the capability to expand the system to accommodate more inputs. Using the new "01V Link" feature, solo systems and mix functions of two 01Vs can be seamlessly synchronized to create a single large-scale digital mixing system with 48 inputs and four stereo effect return inputs mixing to a common stereo bus. The "01V Link" lets users get started in pro-level digital recording right away, and then expand their setup as their needs and budgets increase. USER-FRIENDLY OPERATION - Customers will be pleased with a host of user-friendly features designed to make the 01V easy to operate. Dedicated solo keys on each channel and front-panel controls for EQ and PAN provide immediate access to some of the mixer's most important functions. A new high density 320 x 80 backlit LCD display graphically depicts all mixer settings and automatically shows the current setting whenever a control is manipulated. REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES - Using the rear-panel RS422 TO-HOST connection or the supplied MIDI connections, the 01V can interface directly with computers and function as a control surface for outboard devices such as the new Yamaha DS2416 digital mixing card, MIDI controllable products, and recorder transports, while retaining its functionality as a professional digital mixer. 32-BIT PROCESSING - Powered by the same 32-bit DSP which gives the 02R its award-winning capabilities, the 01V is sonically identical to the 02R. Additionally, two of the latest 32-bit Yamaha digital effect processors are installed to provide effect performance equivalent to that of the Yamaha ProR3 Reverb unit. SNAPSHOT AND DYNAMIC AUTOMATION CAPABILITY - The 01V can store and instantly recall all mixer settings in 99 on-board snapshot memories allowing the user to return at any time to a previous mix for modifications. Separate memory "libraries" are included for storage of EQ, dynamics, and effects settings. In addition to snapshot capability, any external MIDI sequencer can be used to record real-time movement of the 01V's motorized faders, EQ settings and other parameters, allowing automation of complete mixes. As the successor to the ProMix 01, the 01V is a low-priced production powerhouse that will meet the needs of professional digital audio applications for years to come. At the same time, the Yamaha 02R and 03D, with surround-sound capabilities and timecode automation systems, will continue as fully automated solutions for recording and post production applications.
