February 10, 2000 -- Fostex recently introduced the VM88 digital mixer, the company’s first eight-input, two-output digital mixer designed to accommodate both live sound and recording applications. The VM88 offers 24-bit A/D and 20-bit D/A converters, a 44.1 sampling rate and Fostex’s 24-bit A.S.P. (Advanced Signal Processing) effects processing technology.

"The VM88, with its stereo A.S.P. effects and three-band EQ, is perfect for someone on a budget who needs a mixer that can provide the ability to record and mix ADAT tapes in the digital domain as well as double for live sound use," says Phil Celia, director of sales for Fostex Corporation of America. "The VM88 offers unmatched versatility with an ADAT/SPDIF interface for recording applications and a full-featured digital mixer for live sound and stage-sub monitoring, all for an unbelievably low price."

The VM88 offers balanced inputs on all channels with 48-volt phantom power and individual inserts. Stereo A.S.P. effects are also available on each channel, as well two auxiliary sends that are pre/post selectable. The ADAT direct out is pre fade only, while the ADAT/SPDIF is mixable. To accommodate low light levels, the VM88 offers self-illuminating keys and a back-lit LCD display. Channel parameters are selectable via a combination of Edit and View buttons and are adjustable with a data jog wheel. The VM88 also provides a 20-scene memory.

The VM88’s excellent set of 24-bit digital effects utilize Fostex’s new A.S.P. Technology to offer the kind of sonic quality not usually associated with products at this price. By combining a special Harmonics Feedback Algorithm with Hi-Density Logarithmic Processing, A.S.P. effects offer higher gain in the early reflection characteristic and are free from the ‘grittiness’ associated with lesser technologies.

The VM88 joins the D824, D1624 and the VM08 as exciting new digital mixers debuting at the 2000 NAMM Show in Los Angeles.

Suggested retail price on the Fostex VM88 is $799.00.
