Swissonic Announces WD8 Wordclock Generator/Distributor

February 25, 2000 -- The new Swissonic WD8 is a wordclock generator/distributor that has 2 wordclock inputs, 8 parallel wordclock outputs, a superclock output for digidesign systems as well as a digital input/output (AES/EBU). The system can lock to either one of the wordclock inputs or to the digital input. It recovers the clock and sends it to all the outputs and to the digital out (silent audio clock signal).

The digital input is for connecting digital audio sources like a non-synchronisable DAT recorder (like e.g. Tascam DA30) or a digital recorder without wordclock output. On the digital output a "silent audio signal" is generated to sync recorders or systems with digital input, but without wordclock input (like e.g. Emagic Audiowerk8).

The WD8 has also a high precision internal wordclock generator with a stability of 1-2 ppm and can be used as clock generator for a complete studio. The generator can operate at 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96 kHz.

On the front panel , a 15 segment LED frequency accuracy monitor displays the range and stability of outgoing wordclock as well as the incoming clock frequency.

"Clocking in digital audio environments is always a mess and a source of many potential problems," says Daniel Feusi, General Manager of Swissonic AG. "The WD8 is a very elegant solution for this problem. It can sync to any wordclock or digital audio source, or generate a highly stable wordclock resulting in low jitter and the best possible audio quality."

WD8 is expected to ship in the 3rd quarter of 2000.
