Alesis NanoBass 64 Voice Bass Synthesizer Modules
January 16, 1997 -- In addition to the introduction of the powerful new QSR Expandable Synthesis Module (see separate release), Alesis Corporation announced the introduction of three new synth modules: the NanoSynth 64 Voice Multitimbral Synthesizer Module, the NanoPiano 64 Voice Stereo Piano Module, and the NanoBass 64 Voice Bass Synthesizer Module. According to Jim Mack, Alesis' Vice-President of Marketing, the three modules will be shipping to Alesis Dealers later this spring. "Each of these modules offers an affordable method of accessing a specific part of our excellent sound library," said Mack. "The development of the NanoSynth, NanoPiano and NanoBass allowed us to make these carefully-constructed sounds available to every MIDI keyboardist in a compact, low-priced package." All three new synth modules have a physical design similar to Alesis' popular NanoVerb and NanoCompressor processing units, allowing all three synths to be positioned side-byside in a single rackspace. The NanoSynth provides a comprehensive 8 megabyte sound library that's exactly the same as that offered in Alesis' QS6 keyboard. It contains 640 programs, including 512 presets and 128 spaces for user-designed programs. The NanoSynth also provides a complete bank of General MIDI sounds (including 15 complete drumsets) and has onboard multieffects. The NanoSynth includes a serial port to allow direct connection to PC and Macintosh computers, eliminating the need for a separate MIDI interface. The NanoPiano offers an 8 megabyte ROM collection that includes Alesis' acclaimed phase-accurate stereo grand piano program as well as dozens of alternate pianos, electric pianos, organs and more for a total of 256 preset programs. Onboard multieffects are also offered on the NanoPiano. The NanoBass offers a 4MB collection of 256 preset bass sounds optimized for dance music genres, although it also contains traditional acoustic and electric bass sounds. Instead of effects processing, the NanoBass has a preset parameter for each program that's adjustable from the module's front panel. Like all of Alesis' keyboards and sound modules, all three synthesizers use Alesis' high-quality 1 6-bit linear 48kHz samples and offer true 64 voice polyphony.
