Digidesign SampleCell II PCI

January 16, 1997 -- Completing the transition of it's product line to PCI-compatibility, Digidesign today announced the planned release of SampleCell II(TM) PCI accompanied by a new SampleCell II Editor v2.1. These new companion products, when used in conjunction with Pro Tools(R) III and TDM, offer full 20-bit digital audio integration with features and performance unparalleled by any other sampler on the market.

The new PCI-based SampleCell II card retains all the functionality of it's NuBus-based predecessor including 32-voice playback, four stereo outputs, digital 1/0 (via Pro Tools III / TDM) and a maximum RAM capacity of 32MB. SampleCell II PCI can be expanded to additional voices simply by adding additional cards, thereby conserving valuable physical space in the studio. SampleCell II PCI is fully compatible with all Digidesign software and third party Plug-lns which support PCI, including Pro Tools v3.21 (or later). Additionally, SampleCell II PCI is operationally compatible with third party software including Opcode's OMS v 2.0 or greater, Mark of the Unicorn's FreeMIDI OMS emulator, and third party Macintosh sequencers.

The release of SampleCell II PCI is accompanied by the release of the new SampleCell II Editor v2.1. Utilizing native PowerPC code and providing an intuitive graphic interface for sample editing, the new version of the editing application for SampleCell II PCI features a new loop editor providing easy access to create and adjust primary and secondary loop markers. SampleCell II Editor v2.1 implements full OMS (Open MIDI System) integration allowing SampleCell II Instruments to be edited while a sequence is playing in the background. Other new features include a new smaller Bank view, displaying Bank parameters in a row and eliminating the need to scroll when viewing large Banks; and improved keygroup mapping which simplifies the creation of new instruments. The SampleCell II Editor v2.1 is fully compatible with both NuBus and PCl-based SampleCell Il cards. A version of the Editor is also available for 68000-based Macintosh CPU's.

SampleCell II PCI is now available at a suggested retail price of $1295* from authorized Digidesign dealers.
