Alesis Introduces ADAT-PCR Personal Computer Recording System at Winter NAMM
January 29, 1998 -- Alesis Corporation announced the introduction of the ADAT-PCR at the winter NAMM show, according to Jim Mack, Alesis Vice-President of Marketing. The ADAT-PCR, a new ADAT-compatible multi-platform PCI card, will be available this spring with a suggested retail price of $499 (US). "The ADAT-PCR allows every ADAT studio in the world to add nonlinear editing to their system," said Mack. 'When combined with one of the new 20-bit ADAT Type I I recorders, the PCR creates the most powerful recording system available anywhere." Designed to be the nonlinear recording solution for ADAT users, the Alesis ADAT-PCR integrates the world of computer-based hard disk recording with the huge base of ADAT format multitrack recorders, allowing users to have the best of both types of digital recording at a very affordable cost. The ADAT-PCR is the only PCI card currently made that offers both inputs and outputs for the ADAT Optical Digital Interface and inputs and outputs for the ADAT Synchronization Interface on one device, allowing for digital audio transfer as well as sample-accurate synchronization between ADATs and computers. With the ADAT-PCR, ADAT users can send eight tracks of audio into their computer, use the included software-based editing interface for intricate audio manipulation, then transfer the edited tracks back into their ADAT system. The synchronization control allows the computer to act as a "virtual ADAT", adding another eight recording tracks to an ADAT system. The ADAT-PCR includes software for sequencing, digital recording and editing so users can take advantage of the strengths of both linear and nonlinear recording in one seamlessly integrated system. The ADAT-PCR is compatible with Windows 95, Windows NT and Power Macintosh platforms. For more information, visit their web site at www.alesis.com.
