Ludwig Announces Classic Professional Maple Drum Series

January 29, 1998 -- The most significant changes in a decade are in effect with the Ludwig Drum Company. Professional Series Drums from Ludwig now have just what the professional drummer needs for a great sound, look, and years of performance. Ludwig has introduced All Maple 9 Ply, 6mm Shells that are made in the USA at the Ludwig Plant in Monroe, NC. Ludwig's Mini-Classic Lugs are standard featuring the traditional Ludwig look only smaller to reduce contact with the shell to increase resonance. Optional traditional Classic Lugs and Long Lugs are also available on all bass drums and toms.

An entirely new tom holder system is incorporated with the new Elite double tom holder system, featuring clamp style tom brackets, 10.5mm L-arms, and an Omni-Ball for the ultimate in positioning. In addition, Ludwig has updated the bass drum with the new Elite rotating bass drum spurs, and the floor toms now feature the Elite 10.5mm floor tom legs and clamp style brackets.

Outfits are available with Ludwig Modular Series Hardware (stands) or outfits are available without hardware. Finishes have been updated with 8 Wrapped vintage finishes including, Black Diamond, White Marine, Black Oyster, plus Sparkles in Champagne, Black, Silver, Purple, and Red. Natural finishes include 15 Stains, Shadows, and Classic-Coats. New natural finishes include, Coral, Star Dust, and Shadows in Plum, Royal Blue, Black Gold, and Gold.

New outfit configurations in both vintage and contemporary styling include 4, 5, and 6 piece outfits in 8 popular and practical set-ups. Price range options are based on configuration, lugs, finish, and hardware. RIMS are available on toms with outfits or individually with toms and floor toms. Individual component drums (ie: bass drums, floor toms, tom-toms, and snare drums) are available with The Classic Maple Series Drums from Ludwig. They include both power and standard depth bass drums and many more tom sizes with varying depths to accommodate all styles of music. Four different mounting systems for toms are available to match any existing outfit and create the holder system that best suits your music. Drums are double badged with the traditional Ludwig gold keystone.

Suggested retail prices in the USA range from as low as $2,145 for a 4 piece outfit without hardware up to $4,094 for a 6 piece outfit with hardware. "A simple model number system, offering more customization and price range has been acheievd with the new Ludwig Classic Maple Series. These changes make Ludwig one of the best values in the pro drum market, stated Jim Catalano, Ludwig's Marketing Manager".
