Chili Pepper Chad Creates Explosion Crash With Sabian

January 29, 1998 -- SABIAN is pleased to debut the aggressively cutting, powerfully penetrating, and all-round very loud Chad Smith Signature Crash. Available in two sizes - 18.5" and 20.5" - these cymbals were created when Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad - whose venues include the word's biggest stages with one of rock's most sonically frightening bands - visited SABIAN in search of 'a cymbal that would take my face off at fifty paces'.

Said the Los Angeles-based poll-winning, chart-topping drummer "My gig is very loud, syncopated and punchy, with busy bass arid wailing guitar To really kick the band on the accents I needed crashes with maximum cut.. really high pitched. I found myself seeking a different sound, something huge and powerful, but tonally tighter.. more focused and very penetrating. I wanted to hear and feel an explosion."

SABIAN matched Chad's request by combining the bright, tonally focused properties of its pure, uni-rolled B8 bronze with special bell and profile combinations that increase the cymbal's pitch range response rate and cutting power. To this, and quite uniquely, a half inch was added to the size.

Added Chad "The extra half inch of metal increases the shimmer and size of the crash sound and proved to be a key ingredient in creating the 'explosion' I wanted. I've been touting and recording these cymbals with the Peppers arid they're really ripping."

The Chad Smith Explosion Crash comes complete with a highly-buffed Brilliant Finish, a surface protecting clear coat of lacquer, and SABIAN's One Year Warranty
