TC Releases Version 3.5 Software For M5000January 29, 1998 -- TC Electronic, displaying in booth 1007 at the 1998 Winter NAMM show, has released Version 3.5 Software for the popular M5000 Digital Audio Mainframe. Version 3.5 offers a variety of exciting new features including a Multistage Phaser, New Reverbs, and MD2 updates. Registered M5000 owners can download the software update via the Internet. The Multistage Phaser function is derived from the acclaimed TC XII phaser pedal, now digitized and made stereo while preserving mono compatibility. The end result is a monster phaser available on the M5000 with 4, 8, or 12 stages of sweepable filters. New modulation curves and concepts have also been added. The new reverb presets with Version 3.5 fall into two categories, one being purposely digital in character and one emulating natural environments, focusing on the shape and characteristics of real rooms. The new C.O.R.E.2 algorithm was mainly designed to reproduce those rooms with a unidirectional source in mind. The response is dense and smooth without being chorused. Of particular importance to all M5000 reverbs is their true stereo structure. By using extra processing power, the left and right outputs are uncorrelated, thereby ensuring mono compatibility. This crucial feature is, of course, not sacrificed with the new C.O.R.E.2. Version 3.5 has also added two new features to the MD2 mastering package. The Soft Clipping tool allows for simultaneous level optimization and dithering using a single DSP card. Additional processes are available when using two DSP cards. Ideally, leveling should always be optimized in the analog domain to make the best of your A to D converters. However, in order to get the last dB out of your program material, sometimes small amounts of digital gain is needed. The new MD2 Normalizer lets you do just that before entering the 3-band expander/compressor/limiter block. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.tcelectronic.com.
