Alesis Connects ADATs to Personal Computers
with ADAT/EDIT
January 28, 1999 -- Alesis announces the release of ADAT/EDIT, Alesis' solution for affordable
nonlinear audio editing for the ADAT customer. ADAT/EDIT allows users
to easily add hard disk editing and signal processing capabilities to
existing ADAT systems. At $399 USD MSRP, the ADAT/EDIT package includes
the ADAT/PCR interface card, ADAT/EDIT audio editing software, ADAT/CONNECT
audio transfer software and all the cables required to connect ADATs to
a personal computer.
"ADAT/EDIT is a truly significant product," remarks Jim Mack,
Alesis vice president of sales and marketing. "Thousands of ADAT
owners have chosen tape as the standard for tracking, transfer and audio
archiving. Alesis knows and understands these customers better than anyone.
To enable our customers to access the benefits of hard disk editing, we
have developed ADAT/EDIT, the ideal technology for combining tape with
the nonlinear world."
At an incredibly affordable price, ADAT/PCR is the only ADAT-compatible
interface card with both ADAT Optical and ADAT Sync inputs and outputs
in a single PCI card space. The transfer utility in ADAT/EDIT automatically
identifies ADAT recorders in the system and works in tandem with the ADAT
Sync interface to maintain precise synchronization between the ADAT and
the computer.
While
ADAT/EDIT includes both editing and transfer software, the transfer software
is also compatible with most popular audio editing software using standard
WAV or ASIO drivers, including: Emagic Logic Audio, Cakewalk Pro Audio,
MOTU Digital Performer, Steinberg Cubase, and Opcode Studio Vision. The
ADAT/CONNECT transfer utility software imports and exports up to 24-bit
audio from ADATs with single-sample accuracy. ADAT/EDIT software is compatible
with any model of ADAT, from the original ADAT classic and ADAT-XT to
the current generation of ADAT Type II machines like the LX20, XT20 and
M20.
ADAT/EDIT, the editing software included in the package, was co-developed
by Alesis and Emagic, a leading audio software developer. The software
imports and exports AIFF, SDII and WAV files. The software also enables
the user to control all aspects of the transport via ADAT Synchronization,
technology developed by Alesis. Editing tools include cut, copy, paste
and reverse. Advanced digital signal processing features in the program
provide reverb, delay, EQ, time compress/expand, pitch correct, normalize,
gain change, removal of DC offset and sample rate conversion. ADAT/EDIT
software also supports MIDI sequencing for recording, editing and playing
MIDI data within the same program.
"The software was designed for customers who may be new to using
a computer for their music," said Don Hannah, Alesis marketing manager
- recording products. " The ADAT/EDIT interface will be very familiar
to the ADAT owner, who can even control the ADATs from a virtual transport
in the software. The all-inclusive ADAT/EDIT package makes it easy to
connect ADATs to a personal computer right out of the box."
In addition to the ADAT/PCR interface card, ADAT/EDIT editing software
and ADAT/CONNECT transfer utility, the ADAT/EDIT package ships with two
3-meter ADAT Optical cables and one 3-meter ADAT Sync cable.
ADAT/EDIT is expected to be available in March 1999.
