Boss Introduces the DR-770 Dr. Rhythm
January 28, 1999 -- BOSS, the company whose feature-packed drum machines have changed the face of home recording and songwriting, has once again raised the bar with the new DR-770 Dr. Rhythm. Equipped with all the popular features from the DR-660 model, as well as some great new enhancements, the DR-770 is BOSS' finest compact rhythm machine to date. The DR-770 offers a whopping 4MB of waveform memory-twice as much as the DR-660, and four times the amount included in other drum machines on the market today. This added memory translates into 255 of the highest-quality drum and percussion samples ever offered in a BOSS rhythm machine, including 52 different kick drums, 67 different snare and cross-stick sounds, a variety of sound effects and four bass guitar sounds. These sounds are grouped into 64 Preset drum kits, and users can program 64 more of their own combinations. Four-hundred new Preset patterns cover the spectrum from rock, pop, and fusion to world, Latin and dance, and there are 400 user-programmable patterns as well. These patterns can be quickly navigated by musical genre using a new Quick Search function, eliminating endless scrolling. And up to 10,000 notes can be stored in the internal memory, ensuring that users will have more than enough space to get the job done. Audio quality on the DR-770 is enhanced by its onboard effects: reverb/delay, flange, and high and low EQ. A new "Ambience" control allows global effects and EQ settings to be applied for instant changes in overall drum sound. Incredibly subtle nuances of expression are possible thanks to the drum pads' 127-stage velocity, and a Flam/Roll button that captures a realistic live drumming feel. Simple operation is ensured with features like Direct Pattern Play mode, which allows instant pattern playback via one of 16 drum pads, and a streamlined user interface. An optional assignable footswitch can even be employed to start/stop patterns, trigger fill-ins and kick drums, or forward/rewind within patterns.
