Digidesign's DigiDrive* Offers Reduced Noise

DigiDrive® Offers Significantly Reduced Noise and Optimized Performance For Audio Production Applications

January 28, 1999 -- Digidesign eliminates the guesswork in choosing a certified compatible hard drive for Pro Tools* systems by offering the DigiDrive*, a 10,000 RPM, 9 GB hard drive that delivers the speed, capacity and reliability to handle the most demanding Pro Tools projects. Available from authorized Pro Tools dealers and fully supported by Digidesign Customer Support, DigiDrive offers Pro Tools customers the convenience of one-stop shopping and service.

DigiDrive offers several advantages over generic hard drives. Digidesign/Avid's exclusive, patent-pending QuietDrive* technology dramatically reduces noise by up to 15dB, making the unit quiet enough for use in critical listening environments. Up to four units can be clipped and interlocked together in a stack configuration. An optional quick-release rack kit with a non-proprietary docking system lets users rack mount two drives side-by-side in a 2U space. Self-contained construction, including built-in power and connections, allows users to take the drive to various studios without needing a proprietary dock. Front-mounted controls and indicators provide optimum convenience and visibility. Advanced thermal sensing circuitry enhances cooling efficiency by controlling fan speed, and a built-in heat detection/indicator circuit alerts of potential problems before the drive or data are threatened.

Each unit comes with the DigiDrive Tuner application that optimizes the drive for use with Pro Tools. The drive supports fast/wide ATTO (single- and dual-channel) and fast/wide Adaptec (on-board dual-channel) host adapters, with additional systems to be announced as certified.

DigiDrive's suggested retail price is $1,495* (With the purchase of a Pro Tools TDM systems. Retail price of the drive purchased separately is $1,838.)
