ENSONIQ Debuts SMPTE/VITC Interface for PARIS

New Hardware Delivers Professional Synchronization Capabilities

January 28, 1999 -- ENSONIQ will debut the EDS-Sti-01 professional SMPTE/VITC synchronization module for the PARIS® hard-disk recording system at the 1999 NAMM Convention. The EDS-Sti-01 interface is designed to slide into any one of the nine expansion slots on the back of the PARIS Interface MEC (Modular Expansion Chassis). The EDS-Sti-01 brings professional, industry standard synchronization capabilities to PARIS.

SMPTE/VITC interface for PARIS
The EDS-Sti-01 professional SMPTE/VITC synchronization module will read and generate LTC and VITC time code, and supports both NTSC and PAL formats. The following frame rates are supported: 30, 29.97(non-drop), 29.97 (drop), 25, and 24 fps, with the ability to auto detect the frame rate of incoming time code. The EDS-Sti-01 will support 48kHz and 44.lkHz sampling frequencies, as well as the ability to generate .1% pull-down and pull-up for film-to-video transfers. When reading time code, the EDS-Sti-01 is capable of freewheeling upon detection of missing time code, and has the ability to jam sync or regenerate fresh time code when dubbing. The EDS-Sti-01 supports both Black Burst mode (sample accurate) and Chase Mode type synchronization, and can generate an optional SMPTE time code display window in the video output signal ("window bum").

The EDS-Sti-01 offers the user 11 front panel status indicator LEDs, including 30/29.97 (non-drop), 29.97 (drop), 25, and 24 frame rates, Lock, Video Present, LTC, VITC, Pull Down, Pull Up and Master Sync. Rear panel connectors include (2) quarter-inch TRS connectors for analog SMPTE time code input and output (LTC), and (3) BNC connectors for Video Input, House Sync and Video Output.

"The SMPTE module adds fully professional sync capabilities to the recording and editing environment of the PARIS systems," says Ray Legnini, PARIS project manager. "This new module widens our potential user base to include video and post-production professionals. We believe this addition will make PARIS a cost-effective solution for any studio's audio editing needs."
