Electro-Voice Launches EX23 Electronic Crossover
January 28, 1999 -- Electro-Voice launched the EX23 Electronic Crossover at the NAMM Convention. The EX23 provides top-notch performance at an affordable price. "The EX23 gives the group, sound company or contractor an extraordinary electronic crossover with high-price features and performance, but at an affordable price point," says Mike Torlone, director of marketing music products for Electro-Voice. "The EX23 will greatly impact this market segment by providing everyone the opportunity to maximize amplifier power usage and optimize speaker performance and protection." The Electro-Voice EX23 is a high-performance stereo two-way or mono-three-way electronic crossover. Based on fourth order, 24-dB-per-octave Linkwitz-Riley filters, the unit keeps all drivers in perfect polarity while offering superior speaker protection from damage by out-of-band signals. The EX23 offers a unique mono subwoofer output that sums the inputs to mono, offers sweepable frequency ranges from 60 to 250 Hz and provides infrasonic filtering allowing the unit to be used as a stereo three-way system if a mono low frequency section is acceptable. The built-in infrasonic filter, set at 30 Hz with an 18-dB-per-octave slope, is designed to maximize amplifier power by eliminating the troubling low frequencies that can cause speaker over-excursion. Frequency ranges of 80 to 800 Hz and 800 to 8,000 Hz cover the mid and high frequencies. Crossover frequencies are adjustable from 80 to 8,000 Hz to accommodate a wide variety of drivers. Input level controls, separate output level controls for low and high outputs with mutes for each output and frequency range are available per channel. The inputs and outputs are active balanced and the unit has a ground lift switch to help eliminate the annoying hum experienced from ground loops. The EX23 has a built-in power supply with IEC connector with selectable voltages for system interface anywhere in the world. The system runs at 12 watts maximum and occupies a single 19-inch rack space. Visit Electro-Voice (a division of Telex) on the web at www.telex.com.
