Roland Introduces DJ-1000 DJ Mixer

January 28, 1999 -- Roland's new DJ-1000 Professional DJ Mixer is a two-channel mixer with built-in digital BPM counter, MIDI sync capabilities and unique analog synth-type effects. For club DJ's who want uncompromised basic mixing features with new sonic possibilities to spice-up live sets-or dance music producers who need to sync their turntables to MIDI gear-the DJ-1000 is the perfect creative DJ tool.

The DJ-1000's straightforward two-channel operation provides independent three-band EQ per channel, three selectable inputs per channel (one stereo phone and two stereo line) and a sturdy, smooth-action replaceable cross fader-making even intense scratch-style mixing both easy and fast. A unique, three position "Grab" switch allows instant access to the channel EQ, allowing radical EQ tweaks to the mix on the fly. An independent Booth Level control lets DJ's control their own booth mix separately from the club mix.

Unique to mixers in this class is the capability for the mixer and its audio sources to communicate in sync. The DJ-1000 is able to detect and display BPM from audio sources like vinyl records and audio CD's and send this BPM information out to MIDI-equipped synths and drum machines like the MC-505 Groovebox or DR-202 Dr. Groove. Tempo information can also be set manually via the BPM Adjust and Tap Tempo buttons, allowing not only for MIDI Clock output, but for syncing records and CD's with the DJ-1000's onboard analog synth-style effects as well.

The powerful built-in DSP Filter section gives DJ's the ability to not only to shape sounds with a filter but to modulate them like a classic analog synth with independent LFO and envelope generator-enabling sounds from records and CD's to be tweaked from mild to extreme. The DSP Filter section includes an independent Filter block with knob-based control of Cutoff and Resonance; a Modulator 1 block with realtime control over LFO wave type, depth and BPM sync; and a Modulator 2 block with realtime synth-style envelope generator (attack, decay time, decay level) and BPM sync. These awesome effects allow DJ's to sound as if they've got a vintage synth on stage-taking live and studio performances to another level.

Connections to the DJ-1000 can be made via four RCA-type line inputs (L/R), two RCA-type phono inputs (L/R) and one dedicated Mic input. Outputs include one dedicated RCA-type Master output (L/R), one dedicated RCA-type Booth output (L/R), and a MIDI output.
