Technics PC Series Digital PianosJanuary 28, 1999 -- Adopting the new Technics' Dynamic Acoustics stereo sampling technology used by the Technics PX series, Technics new SX-PC12 digital piano delivers improved piano sound over its predecessors, offering the lush sound of a Concert Grand. "The technology present in this new digital piano will empower musicians to deliver truly expressive performances characteristic of a Concert Grand piano," says Dan Slick, assistant general manager, Technics Musical Instruments Division. "Since the piano is stereo-sampled, the bass, midrange and high notes sound like they're coming from the left, center and right of the instrument, respectively, further enhancing the effect of playing on an acoustic piano." The SX-PC12 boasts a full 88-key console, and uses PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) source sampling and Dynamic Acoustics to capture -- and faithfully reproduce -- all the nuances, subtleties and natural sound of a fine acoustic instrument. Result: an expansive, realistic piano sound. Stereo sampling gives directional characteristics to the piece being played, while the piano's Concert Touch Keyboard responds to the pianist's touch, delivering the notes as they were intended to be heard. A 32-note polyphony guarantees that individual notes in the most elaborate compositions can be faithfully reproduced. Result: a rich, layered effect for which traditional pianos are known. Adding to the authentic feel (and sound) are Soft and Sustain foot pedals. Also included is Digital Reverb for adding a spacious sound to musical performances and an "Auxiliary In" stereo input jack for connecting external audio sources such as a compact disc player or cassette deck for playback through the piano's speakers. The SX-PC12 outputs 80 watts of power to deliver the music with a dramatic flair. The piano also features built-in demonstration performances, two headphone jacks and MIDI terminals (In/Out), so it can each be linked with a personal computer or other, similarly-equipped, instruments. The SX-PC12 digital piano is available in an elegant wood grain finish and has an enlarged music stand that can hold even oversized sheet music. It will be available in February, 1999.
