Telex Shows UR-700 UHF Wireless Mic System

January 28, 1999 -- Telex Communications, Inc. is introducing the new UR-700 UHF Wireless Microphone System at the NAMM Convention, held from January 28 to 31 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Booth W144. The UR-700 brings UHF capabilities to the live and installed sound markets at an aggressive price point, expanding system reliability in crowded frequency areas.

"Following in the footsteps of the industry standard FMR-70, the UR-700 is designed to bring quality UHF performance to the user," says Gary Bosiacki, national sales manager/sound reinforcement products for Telex. "We are shipping the systems with the same price targets as the FMR-70."

The Telex Model UR-700 Receiver and associated transmitters, the HT-700 and WT-700, offer the signal confidence of operating as a full diversity system in the 690 to 725 MHz UHF frequency range. Up to 10 systems can be used simultaneously using specific pre-set frequencies, depending on local conditions. The UR-700 employs Telex's patented Posi Phase(tm) auto diversity circuit allowing the unit to use both antennas at all times, resulting in stronger signal reception from the transmitter. Two TNC-type antenna connectors are on the unit's rear panel with quarter-wave antennas supplied for normal use or an optional antenna accessory kit is available for rack mount. A half wave antenna kit using coax cable can be used for remote installations.

The receiver offers a five-segment LED light array for AF that aids in setting microphone gains and monitoring receiver microphone and line level outputs. A one-segment LED is supplied for RF signal check and a two-segment LED indicates diversity action and antenna configuration. The unit comes with an XLR and 1/4-inch phone jack for output connections at line or microphone level. The UR-700 operates from the supplied AC adapter or any nominal 12 to 15 volt AC/DC 300 mA supply. The UR-700 is a half-rack unit with rack mounting hardware now included.

The Model HT-700 Transmitter features a power output of 10 mW and offers an array of dynamic and electret elements. The unit provides a frequency response of 50 to 15,000 Hz and will operate from eight to 12 hours on a single 9-volt alkaline battery. The Model WT-700 Transmitter offers the same performance as the HT-700 but is designed for lapel microphones.

"The UR-700 system has the same advanced look of the USR-100 system with a backlit front panel," explains Bosiacki. "We expect the UR-700 will have the same market impact as the FMR-70 did in the live and installed sound markets. This system gives users a competitive edge by offering his clients problem solving power at a cost effective price point."
