Rocket Network (www.rocketnetwork.com)
the first and only network of Internet Recording Studios that allows audio
professionals to meet on-line, collaborate, and produce original audio live from
anywhere in the world and Harmony Central are teaming up to offer Rocket
Network Internet Recording Studios on the Harmony Central web site. The Internet
Recording Studios offer musicians the unique chance to create music with musicians
from around the world in real-time. Gone are the headaches of tearing down your
rig, packing it into your car, and setting it up again in order to collaborate
with your fellow musicians - just to repeat the process afterwards.
Rocket Network announced the release of version 2.0 of their RocketControl
and SDK at the AES convention in New York, with offers a number of improvements
to the previous version of the technology. Most notably, musicians can now lay
down tracks of digital audio in addition to MIDI, which can then be uploaded automatically
to the virtual studio for all participants to hear (various levels of audio compression
can be used on audio tracks to speed upload and download times). Tracks can be
mixed, and the mix information can be distributed to all musicians in the studio,
including plug-in and mixer automation. Access permissions are also built-in to
the system so you can invite new people into your personal studios without giving
them the ability to destroy your work.
To collaborate on-line, you will need an application with Rocket Power. Steinberg
is working on an update to Cubase, and Emagic will add Rocket Network to support
to Logic Audio this year. Other applications with "Rocket Power" are
expected as well. Users will be able to participate whether they use a Mac or
Windows PC.
Harmony Central expects to make Rocket Network Internet Recording Studios available
later this year. Some free public studios will likely be offered, as well as private
studios available for lease to those that require more bandwidth and storage space.
