Mac OS X Driver for MOTU's USB MIDI Interfaces Released December 29, 2001
MOTU, Inc.
announced its first product for Mac OS X - a USB MIDI driver for all MOTU
MIDI interfaces, including the 2x2 FastLane-USB, 4x6 micro express-USB, 8x8
MIDI Express XT-USB and the 8x8 MIDI Timepiece AV-USB interface/universal
synchronizer. The MOTU USB driver was coded from the ground up to leverage
Mac OS's new "CoreMIDI" architecture, making all MOTU USB MIDI interfaces
compatible with all Macintosh software that supports standard Mac OS X MIDI
drivers.
"With MIDI services integrated into the operating system and a flexible
driver model, Mac OS X allows MOTU USB MIDI interfaces to deliver
sub-millisecond timing accuracy to all MIDI software under Mac OS X," said
Jim Cooper, MOTU Marketing Director. "This is a major leap forward in
performance and interoperability for the entire Mac platform."
MOTU MIDI interfaces for Mac OS X take full advantage of USB's benefits,
including plug-and-play ease of use, high-bandwidth I/O, low-jitter
isochronous performance, hot-swapping, expansion via a standard USB hub, and
the ability to mix and match different interface models. The MOTU USB MIDI
driver for Mac OS X provides universal compatibility with all MIDI software
that supports Mac OS X MIDI, without the need for third-party extensions. In
addition, all MIDI software for Mac OS X can take advantage of MOTU's MTS
(MIDI Time Stamping) technology, which provides a third of a millisecond
timing accuracy for every MIDI event transmitted between a MOTU interface
and the computer.
