PRESS RELEASE

Shure Opens 2nd Annual Musical Roots Contest

Call for entries in Amateur Songwriting Contest and Benefit Concert

September 8, 2002

Shure Incorporated announced the launch of the 2002 Shure Musical Roots Contest on www.shureaudio.com, the second annual event featuring a contest, concert, and cause celebrating the inspiration of artists' musical roots. This year, Shure's second annual Roots contest focuses on a new source of inspiration by calling for amateur musicians to submit an original music composition, along with a brief essay about a teacher or mentor that helped the entrant develop his or her sound. The Grand Prize winner will receive $5,000 (MSRP) in Shure gear, as well as $5,000 (MSRP) in Shure gear for the entrant's mentor. Additionally, the winner will be flown to Anaheim, CA to attend the Shure Musical Roots Concert, again benefiting hearing conservation charities.

"We were extremely pleased by the response we received last year with Roots," notes Jack Kontney, Shure's Director of Public Relations. "By focusing on the unsung heroes of music education and their impact on amateur songwriters, we hope to tap into the same musical inspiration that resulted in nearly 800 entries last year. We also hope Roots will continue to inspire musicians to protect their hearing, so that they can enjoy and create music for years to come."

Contest entries can be submitted online in MP3 format, or by mail on a CD or cassette. The original compositions will be evaluated by a panel of Shure music experts, and will be rated based on creativity, performance, and production values. Entrants are also required to write a 100-word or less essay honoring a music teacher or institution who influenced them which will provide context for their composition. The contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec) who are 18 or older, or who receive consent from a legal guardian. Entries will be accepted both online and by mail through October 31, 2002.

Ten finalists will be named in late November. These entries will be showcased online at the contest site (www.shureaudio.com). Each finalist will receive a Shure KSM27 studio microphone.

The winning entry, as judged by Shure's panel of experts, will take home nearly $5,000 in credit towards the manufacturer's suggested retail price of Shure gear, plus an all-expenses paid trip to the 2003 National Association of Music Manufactures' (NAMM) International Music Market in Anaheim, California in mid-January. In addition, the winner's named mentor or educational institution will also win $5,000 worth of Shure gear.
