Modes of Operation
The Whammy Pedal has three modes of operation, each containing a number of presets.
Harmony
Includes pairs of fixed intervals mixed with the original signal. When not in full up (heel) or down (toe) position, the pedal (the manual calls it a treadle) sweeps between the two intervals offered in each preset.
The harmonies sound smooth. Note that there are no "intelligent" or key-dependent modes offered. So, for example, if you try playing a major scale with the third interval selected, the harmony will be incorrect (a half-step sharp) on the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th intervals. You can get around this by selecting the Min 3rd Up/3rd Up preset and using the pedal to create the correct interval (52 kb MP3).
Detune
There are two presets, one a mild chorus, the other deeper. The pedal controls the mix between dry and detuned signal, the only case where the Whammy pedal gives the user direct control over relative levels.
Whammy
Unlike the Harmony mode, which mixes your guitar's original pitch with the selected interval, the Whammy mode is 100% effect. When the pedal is in heel position, your guitar is at original pitch. Pitch sweeps to the selected interval as you move toward toe position. As you can hear in the links below, the sweep is impressively smooth. I found some of the settings more musically useful than others -- 2 Octave Down will test your amp's ability to handle low end -- but overall, I was impressed.
