Lick Builder (tm) 1.0 (Application)

The Mac version is available as a stand-alone application 
(2 Mg unstuffed) or as a HyperCard Stack (150K). 

We have written a small shareware app for studying & calculating 
Licks for practicing Improv chops which we call "LickBuilder". This 
is only Version 1.0 of an idea. Later Versions will have umpteen 
more features. This product really does only one function, but we 
tried to design it in such a way that it does that one function 
really well and can really be useful to people working on Improv 
chops who want different ideas printed out very quickly or for
composers who need to generate different combinations of note 
patterns (for example twelve-tone rows).

LICK BUILDER  is a permutation generating engine that takes 
any four musical pitches and calculates the twenty- four combinations 
without the repetition of a pitch.  This particular mathematical 
calculation is an example of permutation: the ordered selection of 
three objects from the set S containing objects a, b, c and d. Four 
possible choices exist for the first object, three for the second, two 
for the third but only one for the fourth. Multiplying the possibilities, 
4 X 3 X 2 X 1 = 24, gives the total number for that given permutation of 
S. If you fell asleep during an algebra class along the way, this will show 
you something neat that you missed!	

Using the LICK BUILDER  software as a tool presents you with the ability 
to let the computer QUICKLY calculate and generate the desired matrix for a 
particular chord or melodic passage. It is also our hope that this tool will 
also be of use to composers who may be looking for a particular turn of phrase 
when trying to solve a melodic problem or are blocked for ideas!
	
These versions limit the number of calculations you can perform
and will not let you save or print your calculations. We have set
a shareware price at $15.00 for full versions in the hopes that we
can use this cash to buy more time to improve the features on 
this product as well as release other products
