The RealTime Tuner 1.2
An Interactive Microtuning Program

   The RealTime Tuner is an integrated suite of microtuning facilities
offered as freeware for the Mac.  It allows the user to perform in
various 12-tone temperaments and intonations, to change the tuning key
on-the-fly, and to record and edit tuned performances.

   It requires a 68K or Power Mac running OS 7.1 or later, and a MIDI
keyboard (or other MIDI controller) and synthesizer.  It uses OMS
(Opcode's Open Music System, downloadable without charge from
http://www.opcode.com/ ).

       The program is designed to make it easy for a musician to
retune a MIDI instrument instantly to center on a different tonic key,
in any temperament.  The retempering can be accomplished directly from
the instrument itself or from an auxiliary controller or pedal as the
music progresses.  With such a capability Just Intonation,
well-tempered tunings, and other historic and ethnic temperaments can
be made to follow the harmonies of the music instead of constraining
them.

     The program features:

   --  A menu of temperaments and intonations
   --  Further temperaments definable by the user
   --  A silent `tuning octave'
   --  An equal temperament escape key
   --  Autotuning by chord following
   --  Stretch tuning (limited implementation)
   --  Tempered or untempered tonic shifts
   --  Pedal-activated tuning presets
   --  Tuning from an auxiliary controller
   --  MIDI recording of tuned performances
   --  Tuning and spot retuning of MIDI files

provides historical background and an introductory tutorial.  Further
