CuteFX 1.0

Screen Shot

How the effect system works in general:

Active CuteFX effects are shown in the list box that makes up the largest portion
of the program screen. You can add an effect to this list box by clicking "Add" and
choosing the type of effect you'd like. If you'd like to remove an effect, select it
(by clicking it with the mouse) and click "Del".

The effects shown are the ones that will be applied to your sound, whether in live
mode or disk mode. They are applied in order, from top down; in other words, the
input to the top effect is the "actual" input from the soundcard, the input to the
second effect is the output from the first effect, etc.

You can move effects in the list, to alter this ordering, by selecting the effect and
using the "Up" and "Dn" (down) buttons.

Each effect has a set of "parameters"; settings for various options. When you select
an effect by clicking on it, you can alter the parameters for that effect. Most
parameters are in the form of slider controls which alter some amount, but there
are also drop-down list parameters; for these, click the box to choose a different
option.

When you first add an effect, you won't notice any difference to the sound; this is
because the "Effect level" slider is all the way to the left. This slider mixes between
the effected output and the input to the effect; so if it's all the way to the left, you'll
hear only the original sound.

List of effects:
Distortion
Quieten (Volume control)
Surround (This effect inverts the right channel of the sound, which on some surround
systems) makes it come out of the rear speaker)
Gate
Compressor
Expander
Delay
Chorus
Flanger
Phaser
Tremolo
Weird effect (This effect's a bit of a joke - an accident)
Filter (low/high-pass)
Filter (band pass)
EQ

System requirements
Windows 95 or NT 4.0 or above, 16-bit soundcard.

Recommended
Pentium-90 or above, 16-bit soundcard capable of full duplex operation (playback and
recording at the same time).

Note that 486 machines are unlikely to work in "live" mode or with the "test" feature
of disk mode, and will take a while with the more complex effects, even if they are
only being written to disk.
